1) what kind of activities does Disha carry out?

The disha team strives to help all who come to us in need of a helping hand, a caring soul. We do our part, and also try to involve other such service organizations. Activities range from assisting rural and poor students, serving as scribes for visually challenged exam takers, taking part in campaigns, takign part in conducting blood donation camps, medical camps, and personality development programs for poor students. view our activity chart for this month

2) What does disha do differently from other service organizations?

We focus on not only reviving our beneficiaries, but enabling and empowering them to help out other deserving people, extending our outreach in an indirect way. We understand that giving information is as much a service as any material endowment. Also, we are a young organization, and we like to pitch in with other organizations in their campaigns and efforts, helping to achive greater impact, and also learning from them.

3) What is disha's driving factor?

We've had the opportunity to help some deserving poor students, whose self-motivation and dedication made us reckon the power of perseverance. These students show us time and again that there are no bounds when the desire to achieve is strong enough. The experience pumps us with loads of vibrant energy. Gives meaning to our life. The smile on the faces of our beneficiaries enriches us much more, reminds us that young as we are, we do have the capability to make a positive change, leaves us thinking what's next on this chase for a new horizon.

4) How are monetary contributions handled?

Some of us set aside a small amount every month and deposit into disha's account. Others mention specifically which cause they would like to donate for - education, medical aid, children's fund, any of the current activities. You can look up the current projects page which gives a list of our ongoing work and the level of contribution needed. All contributions are channeled promptly into the activities, which we present on a continuous basis in Minnal(our members' zone)

Contributions upto March 31, 2008 are exempt from income tax u/s 80G. Upon filing our returns this financial year, we will extend this.
